On the occasion of the 25th years of the group John Fauvel and Florence Fasanelli planned to write a history of the HPM group. The final version of the text was prepared by Florence Fasanelli after John Fauvel has passed away in 2001, and has been published in the Proceedings of HPM 2004 & ESU 4: ICME 10 Satellite Meeting of the HPM Group & Fourth  European Summer University  on the History and Epistemology in  Mathematics Education, edited by Furinghetti, F., Kaisjer, S., & Tzanakis, C., University of Crete, Greece, 2006, pp.x-xxviii. It is entitled History of the International Study Group on the Relations Between the History and Pedagogy of Mathematics: the first twenty five years, 1976-2000.

At HPM 2016 in Montpellier, an survey paper by Clark, K.M., Kjeldsen, T.H., Schorcht, S., Tzanakis, C. & Wang. X., was presented on the history of the HPM group with developments in the domain since 2000, entitled History of Mathematics in Mathematics Education: Recent developments (The text on this site is annotated version from April 2023.)
